Auction

Auction

Live Auction with Machine Gun Freddie and Despicable Nick

Promptly at 1 PM, we will begin auctioning off every horse in the race to the highest bidders. If your group is the highest bidder, you “own” that horse for the day. The cash is collected immediately (no checks or credit cards accepted) and a percentage is set aside for CHOC and T1D exchange. The remainder is paid out to the “owners” of the first through fourth place finishing horses of The Kentucky Derby in the following percentages: 50%, 25%, 15% and 10%.

CHARITY DONATIONS WILL BE TAKEN OUT BEFORE PAYOUTS

Auction Tips

Get Organized! Get with your friends in advance of the event. Decide how much money you want to pool together, what horses you want to bid on, and know your ‘budget’ for each horse. Cash is key. No credit cards or checks accepted. Register early for a paddle. Once they are gone they are gone!

  • Historically horses have gone from as low as $500 to upwards of $3,000+ for the favorites

  • You’ll be lucky to get ONE horse, so bid on many, early and often

  • DO NOT get caught phantom bidding - you WILL pay and there are no do-overs

  • Be assertive in your bids. Wave your paddle high! Don’t get overlooked and miss your opportunity

  • We take this very seriously! There is some real cash being bid here and while super fun and for a great cause, this is almost as serious as a Sotheby’s auction

  • In a nutshell, it is fast and furious and a must see, must participate, so do NOT be late!

  • Lastly, no Turf Club bidding. Bidders must on the main floor with registered paddles during the auction in order for their bids to count

"I support this Derby event because, like Ellie Scalzo, I live with the peaks and valleys of diabetes management every day. The toll is overwhelming. We need to find a cure for this terrible disease!

Thank you for your support."

Gary Hall

“I support this amazing Kentucky Derby fundraiser and the fight for a cure for pediatric cancer and juvenile type one diabetes. My neighbor and fellow swimmer, Ellie Scalzo, who has Type One Diabetes, makes this a cause especially close to my heart.”

Aaron Piersol

We are encouraged by the support of Olympic Swimmers, Multiple Gold Medalists, and World Record Holders Gary Hall and Aaron Piersol. Thank You.

Corporate Sponsorship

We are selling the “breeding rights” of the horses to any corporation, business or person that wants to make a $2,500 donation directly to the cause. These sponsors get to hang a banner, lay out some promotional material, and when their horse comes up for auction, get up to a 50 word message read to the crowd before the bidding begins. In addition, they get a logo on our website for a year with a link to their site, and inclusion in the youtube video etc...

Brian

Why we chose pediatric cancer and Type One Diabetes research

Brian used to say that it would have been very easy to slip into a dark depression while he was battling the cancer that eventually claimed his life. The most important thing that kept him focused and willing to fight were his children, Bailey and G.  He used to wait for them to come home from school and would listen to them play and just laugh.  It did not matter if they were in the backyard swimming, riding bikes, climbing on the fence with friends or just sitting in front of the TV watching cartoons.  Knowing they were happy made him happy and gave him both strength and purpose.  Being an adult and going through what he had to endure was difficult but one has to do what is necessary to survive.  A child is different and a child should not have to be that strong or have to endure so much pain so early in life. A child should be able to play in the ocean or pool without devices attached to their body. A child should never have to suffer - ever.  Every child deserves the chance to laugh, create fun memories and enjoy their childhood.  So that is what we are going to do.  We are going to help so no child has to go through cancer.

our goal is to let kids be kids and live a pain-free life without the daily struggles of pediatric cancer or type one diabetes. #curechildhoodcancer #findacurefort1d
